Guwahati:

Proving that there is nothing as powerful as a mother's love, a mother in Assam has chosen to stay with her 13-year-old coronavirus positive daughter at the GMCH Hospital in Guwahati for the duration of her treatment.

Sharing this development, Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "One child, she had gone for a heart operation to Mumbai on an Assam Government scheme. Since the 13-year-old child has returned to Guwahati after a heart operation we had a discussion with her mother and we came to a decision. Since there is no question of the mother leaving the daughter alone and since the mother has not tested positive even after staying for 5 days after coming from Mumbai, she has decided to stay with her."

Sarma further expressed his "gratitude" to the mother and said that there is a great possibility that she will become positive during this period. "The love for the daughter came to our notice again today as the mother went to the GMCH with her daughter on the same ambulance", Sarma further shared, adding that this is the first time that such a thing has occurred in the State.

Saying that the Government is not "surprised" at the detection of the latest seven cases, Sarma added: "When we brought cancer patients over from Mumbai, we believed that some of them would be tested as positive. Firstly, they had come from Mumbai; and secondly, they came from the Assam Bhawan and a week ago, corona positive case was detected there", the Minister said.

The Minister said that a SOP was adopted and the Mumbai returnees were lodged at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati and the hotel workers were handed PPE kits for their dealings with the Mumbai-returned contingent.

It is pertinent to mention here that the number of coronavirus in Guwahati, the economic hub of the Northeast Indian region, continue to skyrocket. Earlier today, seven new patients along with attendants who came from Mumbai and were in quarantine have tested positive for COVID-19. This includes four cancer patients, three attendants, and the 13-year-old minor heart patient.
