GUWAHATI: The Assam Police detained three people and seized 1.300 kg of heroin from a vehicle in the Karimganj area near the border with Mizoram on Friday.

The vehicle was coming from Mizoram's side, according to Partha Pratim Das, Superintendent of Police for the Karimganj district, and police stopped it at the Kontekchera neighbourhood under the jurisdiction of the Bazaricherra police station.

"Yesterday night, at about 10:30 p.m., we got information that a car heading from Mizoram's direction is transporting drugs. As a result, we deployed Naka to monitor the route and stopped a car. We discovered 100 drug-filled soap containers totalling 1.300 kg during the examination of the vehicle's hidden compartments. Three people have been taken into custody," said Partha Pratim Das.

The truck was coming from Champhai, in Mizoram, the police source added. In this context, a case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

On Thursday, a drug production facility was discovered in Manipur's Imphal East district, and two people were detained, according to the police.

In the raid in Yairipok Changamdabi near the Andro police station, various substances were also confiscated, including heroin, psychoactive opium, and brown sugar, they claimed.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Haobijam Jogeshchandra Singh, police raided the home of one Khulakpam Abdul Ali after receiving a tip.

Ali was detained after a total of 906 grams of heroin, 936 grams of psychoactive opium, and 0.5 grams of brown sugar were found, the source claimed. Upon questioning by the police, Ali admitted that he obtained the drugs from a local resident named Khuleibam Muhamuddin.

After that, when the police arrived at Muhamuddin's home, they were met by gunfire. Muhammaddin was subsequently taken into custody, while his son, Md. Naaman Khuleibam, allegedly escaped the scene.
