KOKRAJHAR: Along with other parts of the country, the 13th National Voters' Day, 2023 was celebrated in Chirang district on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by Ringkang Mashahary, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chirang. Partha Pratim Baruah, Election Officer, Chirang briefed the gathering about the significance of National Voters' Day and electoral process.
On the occasion, Additional DC Rinkhang Mashahary administered the voters' pledge. He called upon the young voters to actively participate in the electoral process and felicitated the Campus Ambassadors under Chirang Election district.
Dr Nasirul Hoque, Assistant Professor, UN Brahma College and resource person of the event also delivered speech about the young voters' participation in democracy with special emphasis on this year's theme- 'Nothing like voting, I vote for sure'.
Newly-launched theme song 'Main Bharat Hoon, Mei Bharat Ka Matadata Hai' was also played along with some other election related videos. As a part of National Voters' Day, 2023, some of the new electors were felicitated and a marathon was organized by the District Election Office, Chirang in collaboration with office of the District Sports Officer, Chirang.
HAFLONG : National Voters' Day was observed in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Haflong. Deputy Commissioner Nazreen Ahmed attended the celebration as the chief guest.
As the part of the programme, certificates were ceremoniously distributed to the new voters who recently attained the qualifying age of 18 years. Speech was delivered by the Deputy Commissioner who congratulated the new voters and briefed about the objective of the celebration of the day. She further spoke about how free and fair election and voting right was important for people to practice in order to build a strong nation.
ADC AR Mazumder, who is also in-charge of the Election Department, Dima Hasao, spoke on the occasion. A warm welcome speech was delivered by the Election Officer,Bruhid Rabha. The theme song released by the Election Commission was also played during the programme. A short speech was also given by a student who represented the new voters.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by DIPRO and nodal officer SVEEP Purabi Phonglo.
