Goalpara: The Nayapara based Ramakrishna Sewa Ashram on Sunday morning took out a colourful rally at Goalpara town on account of the 157th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The rally was flagged off by PB Chetry, District Development Commissioner, who also cut a birthday cake prepared to celebrate the occasion. Hundreds of people from different walks of life, including senior citizens, women, and children participated in the rally waving national flags and displaying posters marking the birth anniversary.
After the rally, a discussion on the life and works of Swamiji was arranged at the Ashram campus. Several distinguished citizens, including Ashish Chakraborty, president, Ananda Kishore Bhowmik, secretary, Dr. Dhananjoy Medhi, academician, and Somnath Paul, coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, spoke on the occasion. Art and quiz competitions were also held where more than 70 students participated.
“The Ramakrishna Sewa Ashram, Goalpara is providing service to the poor and needy every year like offering warm clothes during the winter season, free coaching to needy students and donating furniture to hospitals. We are running our Ashram with the ideology of Swamiji and providing whatever little service we can afford to the society,” said Ashish Chakraborty.
The Sewa Ashram in Goalpara was established in 1985 at Ashoknagar and has now shifted to its newly constructed campus at Nayapara.
Gossaigaon: National Youth Day was celebrated in Gossaigaon. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Gossaigaon town unit observed it with great fervour in the Gossaigaon Subash Club premises. SDPO Gossaigaon, chairman of Municipal Board, Gossaigaon and many other dignitaries along with hundreds of ABVP members were present during the programme.
