KOKRAJHAR: The 163rd birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma was celebrated with a day-long programme by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in collaboration with Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust here at the premises of Bodoland University on Monday.

The programme started with the inauguration of the offering of Yogya Ahuti by Simen Basumatary, Secretary of All Brahma Dharma Prasar Sansad followed by the unveiling of a statue of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma installed at Bodoland University, Kokrajhar by Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) as chief guest of the programme. He paid rich floral tributes to Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma in the presence of priests, trustees of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, devotees of Brahma Dharma and dignitaries of BTC and Bodoland University.

In his speech in the open session, CEM Pramod Boro expressed his gratitude to Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust for being able to install Gurudev's statue at Bodoland University as he hoped with the installation of the statue of such a great human being in such a premier location, the future generation would know about him and get inspired. He asked all trustees of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and authorities of Bodoland University to keep some source of information in the form of booklets about Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma at the statue site so that people could learn his life history and the contribution he had made for the Bodo society. He also stressed spiritual studies for the betterment of society.

"We are very lucky to have such a great spiritual leader like Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma in our Bodo society, because without his teachings we could not imagine having a transformed Bodo society", he added. He informed about the decision taken by his BTC government for the construction of Bodoland Digital Literature Archive and Bodoland Digital Cultural Archive to keep records of great personalities and cultural activities at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar within this year, along with Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Digital Archive at Kajigaon.

The Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary, who also attended the programme as appointed speaker said that the present condition of Bodo society was because of the sacrifice and contribution made by Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, the preacher of Brahma Dharma among the Bodo people. He taught how to live the life through the teachings of Brahma Dharma and the importance of a good society.

Recalling the life histories, sacrifices and contributions of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, he called them 'Mahapurus' for Bodo community. He called upon all religious groups of Bodo community to unite each other by ignoring differences of faith and belief in the interest of their community. He also requested the BTC government to give importance for the development of Kajigaon Brahma Dharma Sevashram, Rawmari Brahma Dharma Sevashram and Goalpara Brahma Dharma Sevashram and to make a documentary film on Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma. On the occasion, Manaranjan Brahma was presented Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2022 with a citation and a cash amount of Rs 50 thousand by Pramod Boro, CEM of BTC.
