LAKHIMPUR: The first Dr Kamal Baruah Memorial Northeast-level Inter-Institutional HS to PG Classes Quiz Competition concluded successfully with participation of 64 groups from various educational institutes across the region at Lakhimpur Commerce College on Saturday evening.
Organized by the college as a part of its ongoing golden jubilee celebrations, the quiz completion was inaugurated by Dr Nirode Kumar Baruah, Vice Chancellor, Assam Cultural University, Majuli. In his inaugural address, Dr Baruah said that quiz competition was the result of continuous study, observation and accumulation of information. He further said that the questions of a quiz competition come from anything under the sky. The inaugural session was attended by Dr Mukunda Rajbangshi, president of the Golden Jubilee Organizing Committee of Lakhimpur Commerce College, and Dr Muhidhar Pujari, president of the governing body of the college.
Earlier, glowing tributes were paid to Dr Kamal Baruah, who taught Education in the college, at the beginning of the inaugural function which was led by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college, by lighting a traditional lamp before the portrait of the teacher. His wife, Dr Arupa Dutta, Assistant Professor of Education, was also felicitated by the college on that occasion. The objective of the quiz competition was explained by Professor Kuldeep Narayan Dutta, coordinator of the organizing committee.
A preliminary test of written elimination round was conducted at the competition after which eight teams were selected for the final round of the quiz competition. The quiz competition was conducted by Ashabur Rahman, eminent quizmaster and advocate of Gauhati High Court. He was assisted by Professor Dipul Baruah, Professor MK Tamuly, Professor Suraj Das and Prasanta Borah of Lakhimpur Commerce College. Aswani Kumar Sharma and Anuj Shankar Devnath of Gauhati University emerged champions of the quiz competition while Sayan Mazumdar (competing as lone wolf) of Gauhati Medical College stood second and Raktim Ranjan Baishya (competing as lone wolf) of Nalbari Law College stood third.
Teams from Assam Engineering College, Guwahati, Lakhimpur Medical College (two teams), Dibrugarh University and North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) emerged fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth respectively. All the winners were awarded with cash rewards totalling Rs 50,000 prize money, running trophies and certificate of appreciation. The awards were presented at a prize distribution ceremony chaired by Dr Muhidhar Pujari.
