SILCHAR: Two advocates of Hailakandi had been detained by police in charge of their alleged role in a child marriage case. However after thorough interrogation they had been released on PR bond. Hailakandi police in a suo moto case detained advocate Faruq Laskar and Notary Abdul Haque Laskar on Tuesday night. While Faruq Laskar was allegedly preparing documents for the marriage of a minor girl of Katlicherra in Hailakandi district and Abdul Laskar as a notary officer signed the papers.
Bidyut Das Bodo, Additional SP of Hailakandi said, the present government had taken a strict stance against child marriage. Police had started investigation against some 'quazi' or Islamic clerics who register marriage as per Muslim law after cases of a few child marriage were reported.
Sources said, both advocates were released on PR bond after obtaining information regarding the affidavit. Faruq Laskar and Abdul Laskar, meanwhile, claimed that the age proof certificate of the girl was provided by her family and hence they had no role in this particular marriage. Hailakandi district Bar Association met SP Navneet Mahanta and demanded a thorough investigation into the issue.
