PATHSALA: The flood situation in Assam's Bajali continued to worsen as more than 3 lakh people of the district have been affected by the current wave of the flood after Bhutan released water from Kurichhu dam.

As per report, the flood waters of the Pahumara and Kaldia rivers submerged several villages, including Pathsala town. Here, two people reportedly died and one person was missing, authorities said on Sunday. As per the information, more than 300 families are currently taking shelter near the railway track line in the Danartari area in the Bajali district after their houses were inundated by the flood waters. There is no power supply for the last five days. Business establishments have been closed in Pathsala town and its surrounding areas.

The farmers of Medhikhushi near the Pahumara River of Bajali are the worst affected. Meanwhile, the district administration is working day and night to rescue people from the flood-affected areas. Fire and Emergency Services, State Disaster Response force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and the Indian Army are engaged in the relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit areas of the district. People have been shifted to safer places. The administration also distributed essential commodities among the people of flood-affected areas. Meanwhile, ministers Ranjeet Kumar Dass and Piyush Hazarika also visiting flood-affected areas and took stock of flood situation.
