2 Drug Traffickers Arrested, Heroin Seized in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: Tinsukia Police launched an operation against illegal drug trade. Two drug traffickers were apprehended with 65 grams of heroin concealed inside an empty LPG cylinder at Panitola on the outskirts of Tinsukia town on Thursday morning.

The LPG truck bearing no AS 23 BC 8179 was carrying empty LPG cylinders from Gopanari Bottling Plant near Digboi. The heroin was found in six packets, the market value of which will be around Rs 6 lakh. The traffickers have been identified as Pujen Phukan (30) of Chikorajan Philobari, who was the truck driver, and Jamuna Ram Limbu (32) of Borhapjan Shantipur Gaon.

Addressing media persons at Tinsukia Sadar PS, Debojit Deuri, Superintendent of Police of Tinsukia, said both persons had confessed their involvement in the trafficking. He also assured that all drug peddlers and mafias operating in Tinsukia district would be brought to book soon.

Tinsukia Police have so far arrested 32 persons and registered 12 cases. The police have already identified the modus operandi of trafficking and new possible routes from Myanmar via porous Arunachal Pradesh.
