LAKHIMPUR: COVID-19 fatalities continue in Lakhimpur district. On Friday, the second child of the district breathed his last due to novel coronavirus infection. The four-month baby has been identified as Rohan Kisti, son of Junash Kisti, resident of Dolahat Bagan village under Laluk Police Station.
The baby developed symptoms of fever, difficulties in breast feeding and breathing. He was admitted in Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) at 8:00pm on Friday and found positive for COVID-19 as per Rapid Antigen Test. He breathed his last at the same hospital around 10:35 am. Earlier, a seven-year child, named Rajibul Islam under Naoboicha Block Primary Health Centre area of the district, died of COVID-19 on June 11.
On the other hand, a total of 210 COVID-19 cases were detected in Lakhimpur district in the last two days. Out of them, 89 cases were detected on Friday while 121 cases were detected on Saturday. On Friday, the District Health Department conducted 3,395 RATs in the nine COVID-19 test centres of the district, including the Block Primary Health Centers (BPHCs) and private nursing homes and registered 98.95 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT in order to detect COVID-19 patients out of the targeted figure 3,430. The detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (3), Dhalpur BPHC (12), Bihpuriya BPHC (21), Naoboicha BPHC (20), Boginadi BPHC (12), Ghilamora BPHC (5), Dhakuakhana BPHC (3) and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (13).
On Saturday, over 100 COVID-19 cases were detected in the district after a week with aggressive conduction of RAT. On this day, the District Health Department conducted 3,689 RATs across the district and registered 107.55 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT out of the targeted figure. The detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (4), Dhalpur BPHC (18), Bihpuriya BPHC (29), Naoboicha BPHC (37), Boginadi BPHC (11), Ghilamora BPHC (1), Dhakuakhana BPHC (5) and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (16).
With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has hiked to 14,076 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 13,047 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while 899 are active cases at present. On Saturday, 35 recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 51 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. A total of 6,042 people of the district tested positive for COVID-19 during the second wave of the contagion since April 1 of the current year. Out of them, 70 people succumbed to the pandemic raising the overall tally of the COVID-19 fatalities of the district up to 129.
On the other hand, in view of the detection of 7 COVID-19 cases at Senior Citizen (Old Age) Home, opposite Jagriti Sanmilito Unnayan Kendra, Bongalmora, under Bihpuriya Police Station and Revenue Circle, Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan has declared an area of 1,440 square metres as Micro Containment Zones. By declaring the area as containment zone under Section 3(b), (c), (h) and (m) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Deputy Commissioner has restricted the exit and entry of the people in and out of the containment zones. During the containment period, the staff for providing food and other essential services to people are allowed.
