210 litres of sulai seized; six held in Naharkatia

NAHARKATIA: A team of Namsang tea garden led by its manager, village defence party, tea garden labour union and Namsang Tea Estate Liquor Prohibition Committee unitedly caught six person red handed while they were supplying illicit liquor (sulai) in Namsang T.E.

The raid was conducted on Saturday night.

After that, they informed the Joypur police. Joypur police personnel immediately arrived at the location and seized around 210 litres of sulai and arrested six persons from the spot. On Sunday, Joypur police handed over the seized illicit liquor to the Naharkatia Excise team.

They also arrested Bikul Mech (27), Shankar Panika (34), Lapa Tudu (55), Bhanu Malik (55), Labo Mech (27) and Prodip Gogoi (45) of Betoni Gaon.

The Naharkatia Excise team registered a case no 120/21 u/s 53(1)(a) of Excise Act and sent them to Dibrugarh jail after producing in Naharkatia Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate court.
