DONKAMUKAM: The excess of water released from five gates by 100 MW Karbi Langpi Hydro Electric Project Dam and incessant rain since couple of days has submerged more than 24 villages under Rongkhang and Duar Amla MAC constituencies in West Karbi Anglong.

Hundreds of hectares of paddy cultivation, houses and PWD roads have been inundated. The villages include Boithalangso Town area, Maisam gaon, Hongkram, Lingding, North Hongkram, Salana and Borbil. The adjacent Nagaon district has also been affected. The affected villages of Nagaon district are Madhavpara, Kamargaon, Juripar and Amtala. People of the affected villages have taken refuge by the side of the road along with their belongings. Now these people are seeking assistance from the government. Normal life has been paralysed in West Karbi Anglong due to heavy shower for the past two days, forcing people to stay indoors.
