26 Rohingyas detained by police in Cachar

SILCHAR: On Saturday, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen cautioned his Indian counterpart S Jaisankar in a meeting in Guwahati regarding Rohingya influx. On the following day, Cachar police detained 26 Rohingya Muslims coming from Jammu and Kashmir.

In the wee hours of Sunday, police detained the SUVs coming from Guwahati with 26 persons, including 12 children belonging to three families. Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur informed that the Rohingya families were coming from Jammu and Kashmir. They reached Kamakhya station, hired three Innova Toyota cars and headed towards Silchar. One of them had a refugee card issued by the UN. Purpose of their visit to Silchar, that too from Kashmir is yet to be unearthed. However, police suspect someone from Silchar was maintaining link with the Rohingyas. Even the three SUVs were sent from Silchar to Kamakhya station to pick them up. Drivers of these cars, identified as Ranjan Sinha, Raja Kar and Shobhan Deb were also detained.

In the last month, a racket known as Kumkum Gang was busted by NIA in Bangalore. The gang, led by K K Ahmed of Katigorah, used the displaced Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar for human trafficking.
