DIBRUGARH: The 2nd Annual National Conference (NEMPSCON-2023) of the North Eastern Medical Pharmacological Society (NEMPS) was held at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, from November 9 to 11, 2023.

The theme of the conference was “Emergent Trends in Pharmacology from the Womb to the Tomb”.

Over 150 delegates and experts from different parts of the country, including renowned oncologists from Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai, Dr. Tapan Saikia, renowned clinical pharmacologists Dr. Bikash Medhi from PGI Chandigarh, Dr. Santanu Tripathi from Patna, Dr. Abhijit Hazra from Kolkata, Dr. Lalit Kanodia from TATA 1mg Delhi, and others, participated in the three-day programme.

It was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Kakoti, Principal-Chief Superintendent, and other eminent dignitaries.

A souvenir was released by the Chief Editor, Dr. Swapnanil Gohain, along with the eminent dignitaries present at the event.

Prof. (Dr.) Meghali Chaliha, organising chairperson, and Dr. Hiteswar Saikia, organising secretary, emphasised the role of pharmacology in improving healthcare. Doctors from other specialties deliberated on various aspects of pharmacology, diseases, and medical education technology.

Cancer therapy and prevalent diseases in North-East India and their management were discussed, and all the opinions exchanged will help generate protocols for improving healthcare delivery.

Dr. Pinaki Chakravarty, President, and Dr. Nishanta Thakuria, general secretary of NEMPS, stressed the need to improve the quality of life by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a holistic healthcare approach. They also stressed the fact that medicine of high quality and uniform standard should be made available to the general population at an affordable cost.

A pre-conference workshop on therapeutic drug monitoring and a quiz competition among the postgraduate students were also organised.

An oration in the memory of the late Prof. Rudra Goswami, a doyen in the field of pharmacology and a pioneer of medical education in the north-east, was also organized.
