TINSUKIA: Three coal miners were burnt to death and four critically injured after poisonous gases exploded while carrying out illegal rat-hole coal mining at the highly inaccessible hilly terrain of Tirap colliery close to the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border under Margherita subdivision in the Tinsukia district on Sunday night. After the bodies were recovered from the coal seam, they were buried in the deep forest using JCB while the injured were taken hostage allegedly by the contractors and reportedly denied medical treatment. Their mobile phones were seized to refrain them from contacting their family members even as photographs of the dead were leaked on social media. The deceased miners have been identified as Saidul Islam and Hussain Ali of Bongaigaon district, Jogigopa and Asmat Ali of Goalpara's Boguwan while the injured are Sahar Ali, Ishar Ali, Saidul Ali and Mojjal Hussain. It came to light only when few co-miners dared to share photographs with their family members. It is learnt that a big police force has reached the spot and has started attempts to locate the bodies.
