LAKHIMPUR: Three more COVID -19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur district during the last 24 hours. The newly-detected patients are Bikash Ali (17) of Chandmari and Raghunath Boiri (57) of Pachim Chandmari of North Lakhimpur town while the third person is Raju Saghra (21) of Dubi of Harmoti area.

Bikash Ali is an employee of the Hotel A&A2 located in North Lakhimpur town where medical staff of the district engaged in treatment of COVID-19 patients were institutionally quarantined. COVID-19 infected Dr. Nabajit Borah was under quarantine in the hotel till his swab test result was reported positive. Bikash Ali's contact with the doctor is considered to be the main reason of his infection. As per report from the District Health Department, Bikash Ali did not go to his home at Chandmari during the last two months and stayed in the hotel.

On the other hand, Raghunath Boiri, who is reportedly an ASI of SSB, had been working in a place near Ranchi in Jharkhand. He came back home in an Innova car with four other persons on June 9. Two out of the four persons were from West Bengal while one was from Dhemaji district and the rest were from Lakhimpur district. After arriving in Lakhimpur, Raghunath Boiri was placed under home quarantine.

The swab sample of both patients were collected on June 12 and sent to the Assam Medical College and Hospital on June 13. Their swab test results were reported positive for coronavirus on Sunday night. Both patients were in the meantime shifted to the Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH) at Telahi Model Hospital.

Raju Saghra had been in Bandra in Mumbai and he returned home on June 11 by flight to Guwahati. Then he arrived in Lakhimpur the next day and his health was screened at Madhavdev University screening center. He was then placed under quarantine in Gangs Palace Hotel at Harmoti and his swab was collected on June 13. His swab test result was reported positive for coronavirus on Monday. He was also shifted to DCH of Telahi.

With these patients, the active number of COVID-19 patients in Lakhimpur district has risen to 42 so far. Notably, coronavirus was detected in 87 people of the district till Monday. Of them, 81 persons were detected in Lakhimpur while rest six were detected in Tezpur. A total of 39 patients have been discharged in Lakhimpur till day while 3 out of 6 were discharged from hospital in Tezpur.
