3 People Carrying Rs 1.48 Cr Detained At Guwahati Railway Station

Guwahati: The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) sleuths have confiscated a whopping Rs. 1 crore from the possession of three individuals at the Guwahati Railway Station on 15 February in a major capture.

The three individuals have been identified as Abhishek Sarma, Umesh Chandra Sarma and Pawan Kumar. Abhishek and Umesh hail from Uttar Pradesh while Pawan belongs to Delhi.

As per the security forces, all of them were intercepted at the entry gate of Paltan Bazar and the money was recovered immediately after they were held.

According to reports, the total seizure amounted to at least Rs 1,48,30,600. The money was being brought from Arunachal Pradesh and it is believed that the trio was taking the amount to Delhi.

It has been alleged that the trio could not show any documentation for possessing the humongous amount and the investigation is underway.

Earlier, Railway Protection Force (RPF) sleuths of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) apprehended a rape accused on 14 February from Dibrugarh bound Rajdhani Express.

The accused had been identified as Khalil Islam and he is around 18 years. Rape charges had been slapped against Khalil and a case had been registered against him by the Delhi Police.

According to reports, Khalil was travelling to Assam and he was arrested at Kishanganj railway station.

As per NFR sources, Crime Branch/New Delhi tipped off the concerned authorities on February 13 at about 09:35 hours about the accused who was travelling by train No. 12424 UP (New Delhi – Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express) (in Coach No. A-5, Berth No. 38).

Officers and staff of RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the local police of Kishanganj acted on the information and detained the accused as soon as the train he was travelling in arrived at the Kishanganj railway station.
