In a significant achievement the Darrang Police have successfully busted a gang of inter district criminals involved in the looting away of six valuable idols from the Jain Mandir at Kharupetia and recovered three stolen idols from their possession.

MANGALDAI: In a significant achievement the Darrang Police have successfully busted a gang of inter district criminals involved in the looting away of six valuable idols from the Jain Mandir at Kharupetia and recovered three stolen idols from their possession. Significantly one of the arrested prime accused has been injured in police firing on Friday while trying to flee from the police dragnet. Briefing this to media at Kharupetia in the evening Superintendent of Police, Darrang Prakash Sonowal said that the prime accused in the July 11 burglary case Asraful Ali - a resident of village Hasrabari of Kajalgaon in Chiang district was nabbed from their hideout in Bongaigaon on Thursday night along with two its accomplices. Police also recovered a stolen idol from their possession.

Meanwhile on Friday Asraful was leading a police team to recover three other stolen idols kept hidden near Kharupetia. However taking the opportunity of the rainy weather he tried to flee from the police dragnet hurting on duty police jawan Kishore Das . This forced the police team to open fire where the accused sustained bullet injuries on a leg. The injured was immediately admitted to Kharupetia CHC and his condition is out of danger. Later police recovered three more stolen idols with the help of another accused. Superintendent of Police further stated that they are on the lookout for the fourth accused who is on the run right now and hopeful that once he is caught the other stolen idol also could be recovered. All section of the society have highly appreciated the achievement of Darrang Police under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal achieved within three days. DGP GP Singh has also appreciated the prompt initiative of Darrang Police.
