Hailakandi: The 31st National Road Safety Week began in Hailakandi on Saturday. The week-long programme began with a procession starting off from the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises in the morning. District Road Safety Committee members, students, NGOs and other stakeholders which consisted of the procession traversed through the main thoroughfares of the town chanting slogans on the need to observe road safety measures to prevent mishaps.

District Transport Officer, SR Mannan informed that various programmes have been lined up on the occasion. Street drama and awareness programme will be held at Hailakandi Bata Point and Algapur Bazaar on Sunday.

An eye checks up camp will be held for the drivers at DMTU bus stand on Tuesday followed by a meeting cum training for e-rickshaw and other drivers at Nazrul Sadan on Wednesday. Awareness programmes on road safety cum roadshows will be held at several places such as Lala, Katlicherra, Gharmura, Hailakandi, Algapur, Panchgram and Katakhal Bazaar on Tuesday and Thursday. Leaflets will be distributed to create awareness on road safety. The week-long programme will come to a close with a function at DMTU campus on Friday.
