31st Road Safety Week organized in Tezpur concludes successfully

Tezpur: The 31st Road Safety Week organized under the aegis of the District Transport Office came to a conclusion on Friday with a formal closing ceremony and awareness meeting held at Balipara. The meeting was presided over by the president of Balipara Development Committee Thaneswar Saikia in the presence of District Transport Officer Umesh Chandra Sharma and members of District Road Safety Committee Ratul Sharma and Amit Nath, other officials and staff of District Transport Office.

The 31st Road Safety Week was observed in the district with various programs. The week was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh on January 11 by flagging off a walkathon from Church Field in Tezpur. An eye check-up and health camp under the supervision of Joint Director, Health Services was set up at ASTC bus stand, Tezpur as part of the weeklong program. Leaflets carrying awareness messages on road safety were also distributed among the public as part of the program.

A ‘gift-a-rose’ campaign was also held in Tezpur town during the week which was inaugurated by DDC Farouk Alam, as a joint initiative of DTO office and district administration, where traffic rule violators were given a rose by senior district and police administration officials and college students in a bid to create awareness about road safety rules.

A two-wheeler rally was also held among male and female bike-riders which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner on January 13. Various road safety awareness meetings were held in various locations such as DTO office premises, Rangapara Bus stand and plays were staged to create awareness among the audience. Joint road checking was also carried out by Enforcement wing and Traffic Police, Tezpur during the week.
