HAILAKANDI: The 32nd Road Safety Month kicked off here on Monday. A function was held at the District Transport Office where District Transport Officer, Syed RafiqulMannan, Principal, Public HS School, OC, HailakandiSadar Police Station and other dignitaries were present.

DTO Mannan urged the motorists and pedestrians alike to follow the rule of the road to avoid mishaps. The DTO urged the people to actively participate in the month-long road safety programmes drawn up to create awareness in a big way.

Mannan said that the Traffic Suraksha Enforcers mechanism set up by the transport authorities and district administration has brought down the number of road accidents in 2020 compared to 2019. He urged the people to play a proactive role in bringing traffic offenders to book by posting photos of traffic violations to make Hailakandi roads accident free.

Fagging off the procession from the premises of district transport office with DSP, Nabamita Das jointly, District Development Commissioner, Ranajeet Kumar Laskar urged the people, especially youths to participate actively in the month-long road safety programmes to make the roads free from accidents. The procession consisting of school and college students and NGOs traversed through the main thoroughfares of Hailakandi town before culminating in the DTO premises.
