34 military men from Assam's Missamari camp test Covid-19 positive

Guwahati: As many as 34 army jawans of the Missamari military station in Assam's Sonitpur district, which is one of the largest military camps in the country, have tested Covid-19 positive, said reports.

The detection of the Covid-19 positive cases has created a sense of fear in the area, as many locals have dealings with the military camp on a frequent basis. This development has been reported amid a sharp spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, where the total number of Covid-19 positive cases has crossed 5,000. As of today, as many as 5,006 people have tested positive in the state, with 9 of those cases having resulted in casualties. At the same time, the recovery rate has also continued to rise at a dramatic rate. With the release of 3,066 patients so far, the number of active patients in the state is now "only" 1,928.

Meanwhile, India registered the biggest single-day jump in its coronavirus tally with 14,516 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 3.95 lakh cases, the Union Health Ministry said. A total of 12,948 patients have died in India since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 375 patients died in the last 24 hours.
