MANGALDAI: "The Assam Police is determined to thwart any illegal or unfair means to pave the way for selection of the qualified candidates on the basis of their merit," Director General of Assam Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said while visiting an examination centre at Mangaldai College on Sunday. He visited the examination centres at Dumunichowki High School, Sipajhar HS & MP School, Sipajhar College, Pacchim Rangamati HS School at Aulachowka and Mangaldai College and interacted with the Centre-in-charges, invigilators and other officials.

The visiting DGP also expressed his satisfaction over the strict arrangements of Darrang Police. Darrang Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia earlier accorded him a warm welcome at the district border at Dumunichowki.

A total of 21,230 candidates appeared on Sunday in the written examination in 53 examination centres in Darrang. However in the second half, a total of 13,360 candidates in 29 examination centres appeared in the examination. For the smooth conduct of the examination, a total of 400 police personnel in different ranks including 400 from outside the district were engaged in the examination duty. No untoward incident or adoption of unfair means has been reported till the examination was over.

Talking to 'The Sentinel' this afternoon, Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia thanked all the officials engaged in the examination duty and the candidates for extending all cooperation in smooth conduct of the written examination.
