DIBRUGARH:
A 35-year-old female doctor from the Dibrugarh district of Assam lost her life to the COVID-19 infection.
Dr. Chenjing Gohain, who was a practicing dentist at Dibrugarh's Barbarua Primary Health Center succumbed to the deadly infectious viral disease.
According to reports, Dr. Gohain tested positive on May 18 and was admitted to the Assam Medical College for treatment; she was allowed to return home on June 6 after recuperating.
However, due to a shortage of oxygen, the doctor was transferred to a private hospital in Dibrugarh on June 15, where she died on Friday.
As per reports, the practicing medical professional was eight months pregnant at the time of her demise. She was a native of Namphakial village in Naharkatiya, Dibrugarh district.

For the preceding two years, the doctor worked for the National Child Protection Welfare Committee.
According to J.A. Jayalal, national president of the Indian Medical Association, as many as 650 doctors have died in the country's ongoing second wave of COVID-19.
He addressed an online session for doctors on "Deciphering and Dealing with Deaths - Facts and Insights" where he remarked that many of the doctors who died due to COVID-19 infection were young and very brilliant professionals. According to him, India lost 753 doctors during the first wave.
As of Sunday, 20 June 2021, Assam registered 1,775 new cases of the deadly viral infection taking the overall caseload in the country to 4,82,505. The active cases in the state now stand at 32,207. Assam reported 30 cases of COVID-19 induced fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally of death count in the state to 4,208.
Yesterday's recovery rate stood at 92.17 percent while the positivity rate stood at 2.27 percent.
The Assam government warned of total lockdown in as many as seven districts of the state from June 23, Wednesday, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, if COVID cases continue to rise.
