LAKHIMPUR: Along with the other parts of the State, the Lakhimpur district committee of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) also observed the 36th foundation day of the regional party on Wednesday across the district.
The Lakhimpur Legislative Assembly Constituency Committee celebrated the event in a befitting manner. On this occasion, AGP central committee general secretary-cum-Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta unfurled the party flag at Gana Bhavan, the district AGP office, located in North Lakhimpur town. Then around 500 party activists took out a rally in the town and arrived at Kalita Gaon Ranga Mancha under Madhya Telahi Gaon Panchayat wherein a special programme was organized on the occasion under the management of Lakhimpur constituency committee AGP general secretary Niran Kumar Borah.
It began with a chorus, led by Azad Fine Arts Academy Principal Bhabananda Sonowal. Prior to it, the swahid tarpan event and paying floral tribute to the martyrs was conducted by martyr's kin Runu Nath.
In connection with the programme, the session of the Madhya Telahi Regional AGP committee was also organized. Dhaniram Nirmal Sonowal and Jogen Sonowal took part as the observers of the session. MLA Utpal Dutta attended the programme as chief guest while district adviser Jiban Rajkhowa, publicity secretary Kula Dutta, Asom Yuva Parishad district president Bolin Das and other party dignitaries took part as guests of honour. The MLA appealed to all to strengthen the AGP in order to safeguard regional interest. In the same programme, the Madhya Telahi regional AGP committee was formed with Powal Chandra Borah and Kamal Kalita as general secretaries. On the other hand, the session of the Lakhimpur Regional AGP committee was also held on October 11. In that programme, the committee concerned was constituted with Dulu Hazarika as president and Surajit Saikia as general secretary.
