Guwahati: Four Assam net bowlers have been selected to travel United Arab Emirates (UAE) for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals have chosen Jitumoni Kalita from Lakhimpur, Rahul Singh of Silchar, and Mrinmoy Dutta from Nagaon, while Hyderabad's Sunrisers side has selected Mukhtar Hussain, who hails from Dibrugarh.
The bowlers will not be a part of the main team, but will be bowling at the nets to the batsmen from the respective teams to help them prepare for the action on the field.
The decision was taken after bio-security measures were put in place for the 53-day tournament, which is scheduled to begin from September 19.
The eight franchise of the IPL were told to select their own net bowlers while maintaining the league's health protocols owing to the spread of the COVID-19.
According to the regulations, local cricketers cannot be used for the cash-rich IPL.
