LAKHIMPUR: The number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase in Lakhimpur district as a result of the second wave of coronavirus contagion. On Friday, a total of 40 fresh COVID-19 patients were detected in the district as per Rapid Antigen Test's results. The District Health Department conducted the RAT on 1,527 persons across the district on Friday, out of which the 40 people tested positive for coronavirus infection.

These cases were reported from North Lakhimpur urban (3), Dhalpur (11), Bihpuriya (2), Boginadi (6), Ghilamora (9) and North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital Respiratory Clinic (9).

On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Khageswar Pegu has declared Hokpara Bolahi village under Ghilamora Police Station under Dhakuakhana subdivision of the district as micro-containment zone to check the spread of coronavirus. In the village, a person, identified as Dhiren Bhadra, was detected as COVID-19 positive on Thursday. On Friday, a total of 120 people, who came in contact with him, were brought under RAT, out of which 9 people tested positive for coronavirus infection. All these tested people had history of attending a marriage ceremony.

With these newly-detected patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 patients of the district has increased to 8,204 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 8,014 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 129 active cases at present. On Friday, seven recovered patients were discharged from home quarantine.

Meanwhile, as the active COVID-19 cases crossed the 100 mark in Lakhimpur on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Khageswar Pegu, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, closed down all the Lower Primary Schools of the district, both government and non-government, including the pre-primary schools, by issuing an order on Friday. The order was issued under ten sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 from 25 to 34.
