GUWAHATI: A huge consignment of cannabis weighing 40 kg was seized at Kamakhya Junction Railway Station in Guwahati on Tuesday.

According to sources, the cannabis was recovered from food preparing bogie in the Delhi- bound Brahmaputra Mail concealed under food.

However, Railway Protection Force allegedly tried to cover up the incident.

Earlier today, the police in Guwahati busted a woman for allegedly selling cannabis and seized huge quantities of the contraband substance.

Police said that during the operation at her residence, they seized around 25 kilograms of cannabis from her. Apart from that, police also found cash worth over a lakh and a car.

Following this another case occurred on 9 September where Assam police seized a massive consignment of cannabis along the Assam-Tripura border.

As per reports, ganja weighing around 1,108 kgs was seized from a truck that was intercepted during a routine checking along the border.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck has been arrested for his involvement in smuggling drugs.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him.

Taking to Twitter, Karimganj police wrote, "#AssamAgainstDrugs During routine checking along the Assam Tripura border by staff of Churaibari WP, a whopping 1,108 kgs of cannabis was recovered from a truck last night. The fight against the inter state drug traffickers continues."

Also earlier this month, Assam police and troopers of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and arrested one person in Nagaon district and seized 400 kg of cannabis

The arrested person has been identified as one Hasan Ali.

Acting on secret information, a combined team of police and CRPF launched an operation at Nagaon town and seized the cannabis from a house owned by Hasan Ali who was the kingpin of ganja distribution in the district.
