47th Karbi Youth Festival to be Celebrated in February 2021

India is a diverse country with a large number of communities, religions, and tribes. Every community, every tribe celebrates its own culture and traditions. Similarly, the Karbi tribe of the Northeastern region celebrates its own festival i.e., Karbi Youth Festival since 1947. The tribe started to celebrate this festival with an aim to promote and share the culture and heritage of all people of Karbi descent with the global community. This Youth Festival is not only an entertaining event but an educational experience. From this region and from outside one can explore the cultural village following a variety of ethnic foods, cloths, instruments, etc. This big Festival honours culture, tradition, and family. Their cultural values help the entire tribe to bind together and develop a sense of belongingness.

Karbi Youth Festival (KYF):

The generations of the Karbi Youths were born at the Diphu jail in 1947. Among some of the youth, the force includes Roi Enghi, Pari Rongpi, Lowrance Teron, etc.

The Karbi Youth Festival is an annual festival which is celebrated by the Karbi Tribes of Assam. Every year, it is celebrated on February 15-19 at Taralangso, Diphu which is the largest and oldest ethnic festival organized in the Northeast.

During the initial years, KYF was held in different places due to difficulty to visit taralangso from the entire district. Every year celebration of KYF changes in accordance with local people's demands, during the initial KYF just like a campaign for the Karbi people to perform and celebrate among themselves which can make their cultural heritage enriching. The main reasons are the lack of proper communication by the Karbi people, lack of a proper place for the festival to celebrate to make a permanent place.

The Karbi youth Festival is the largest ethnic festival organized in Taralangso, Diphu. It is not just an entertaining event but also an educational and cultural event. People from various places visit to explore the ethnic village where there is an exhibition of ethnic foods, tradition, shop around the marketplace. Over 5000 cultural activities participated in it during the 5 days and in the 4 stages. The festival encourages individuals from all ethnic backgrounds to share in the beauty of Karbis that rich the history, art, tradition and modern music, and foods. At Taralangso, the green scenic beauty surrounding the cultural complex has a series of highly raised bamboo and thatched Chang-Ghars depicting the typical houses of Karbi people. From its initial celebration of KYF, a section of people attracted across the regions over the Karbi hills and even outside.

The Aim of this youth festival:

The festival aims to promote and share the cultural heritage of all people of Karbi descent with the global community. Karbi culture and traditions are socializing because they never depress and neglect the other culture and tribe, but others did to them.

The Karbi cultural festival has been highlighted that it has an enriching indigenous culture with folk songs, tribal dance, food, and different crafting. The Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) is the most famous and largest ethnic people of the North East India festivals. This year in February, the region is going to celebrate the 47th Karbi Youth festival in the valley.
