4th Edition of Dwijing Festival gets underway at Hagrama Bridge in Chirang district

Kokrajhar: The 4th Dwijing Festival, the greatest River Festival in the Northeast got underway from Friday at Hagrama Bridge, Khagrabari in Chirang district. The River Festival will come to an end on January 7.

The chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary ceremonially inaugurated the main gate of the festival in presence of Assam Minister of Tourism and WPT&BC Chandan Brahma and BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary.

Talking to reporters, the chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary said the Dwijing Festival was aiming at the promotion of tourism in the region. He said the greatest River Festival at Aie Riverbank will enhance the tourism opportunity and integrity of people of the region. “Our focus is to bring communal harmony, promotion of tourism and development of rural economy,” he said adding that the festival reflects the traditional folk, culture, tradition, indigenous sports, and local food, etc.

Mohilary said peace was the utmost requirement for the all-round development in the region. He called upon all to maintain peace and communal harmony among all sections of society. Terming Dwijing Festival an example of communal harmony, Mohilary hoped that the people of all communities irrespective of caste, creed, and religion will enjoy the festival and share in the growth and development of the tourism sector that will provide opportunities to develop the rural economy.

The Minister of Tourism Chandan Brahma flagged off the cycle rally at Chapaguri and at festival venue to Khanamakra tourist destination along Indo Bhutan border. He said the annual calendar mega-event Dwijing Festival was aimed at the promotion of the tourism sector of the region where the largest visitors used to visit every year. He said Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania was misleading the people with divisive politics for his narrow political gain. He called upon people not to be misled and misguided with opportunist leaders.

The vice president of the organizing committee Sushangko Brahma hoisted the flag of the committee while BTC Principal Secretary BC Phukan inaugurated the exhibition stall. The inaugural ceremony was also attended by the MLA Kamalsing Narzary, BTC Principal Secretary BC Phukan, ex-Speaker, BTC Paniram Brahma and other senior leaders.
