5-year-old girl found dead, 'human sacrifice' suspected in Charaideo district

SIVASAGAR: A five-year-old girl, whose body was found on the bank of Singlu River in Charaideo district on Tuesday night, was killed, allegedly as part of a human sacrifice ritual, police said on Wednesday.

The victim's father Anta Munda and nine other persons have been picked up for interrogation in the suspected case of human sacrifice. Charaideo Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh said, "Right now, we can't say for sure if it is a case of human sacrifice. But we have found some puja-related items used in tantric rituals near the body. We have sent the body for post mortem."

"We have started investigation and 10 persons, including the victim's father, have been picked up for interrogation," he said, adding that there had been previous incidents of human sacrifice in the Adivasi-dominated tea gardens in the area. The girl, youngest of five siblings, went missing on the night of August 9 at around 11 pm from her house at Singlu Line of Sufrai Tea Estate and her body was found on the banks of Singlu River the next day.
