GUWAHATI: Officials seized 5.2 quintals of Fair Price rice from a shop in Morongi, Golaghat.

Supply Minister Ranjit Kumar Dass took to the tweeter and informed that one Md. Faizuddun Ahmed ran an unlicensed Fair Price shop under the name of Rongdoi Women Co-operative Society.

Official filed a case against the person and launched further investigation. Minister Dass thanked the officials who unearthed the malpractice of the shopkeeper.

It is to be noted that the State Food and Civil Supply Department has of late set up two toll-free numbers for common people to inform the department if they find any irregularity in the supply chain. Someone informed the irregularities done by Md. Faizuddin Ahmed dialing one of the numbers.

Basing on the input the Supply department officials launched an investigation against him. The shopkeeper did not distribute the Fair Price stuff to the beneficiaries for some time.

But it is yet to be cleared that how could the unlicensed shopkeeper collected the government Fair Price items.

Earlier, the State Cabinet decided to procure rice for the Social Welfare Department's SNP (Supplementary Nutrition Programme) directly from the FCI, not through contractors.

The decision is aimed at putting an end to the writ of contractors that runs in the department.

Making mention of the Cabinet Decision, State Social Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog said, "Through the SNP under the ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) the Social Welfare Department provides supplementary nutritious food to children from 0-6 years of age, pregnant women and adolescent girls to make their nutrition status high. Under this programme, hot-cooked food and home delivery rations are provided to the target beneficiaries through Anganwadi centres.
