LAKHIMPUR: The 57th biennial session along with the drama competition of the Swarnapeeth Mandal (zone) of Asom Natya Sanmilan kicked off on Saturday at Ghilamora under the Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district. The event was organized under the auspices of Ingit, the Ghilamora branch unit of the organization in the Ghilamora Kristi Bhavan premises.
The agenda of the event began with the unfurling of the Natya Sanmilan flag by Swarnapeeth Mandal president Hemchandra Baruah and organizing committee flag by president Purnananda Dutta. Simultaneously, 57 prominent personalities unfurled 57 flags in connection with the event. About 150 women artistes dressed in traditional Muga attires performed the flag hoisting song of the organization. The Smriti tarpan was done by Swarnapeeth Mandal secretary Hiranya Hazarika and Lakhimpur district unit secretary Jayanta Saikia. Speaking on the occasion, president Hemchandra Baruah asserted that the session of the organization was crucial from various aspects.
Ghilamora BDO Dipul Chamuah inaugurated the exhibition organized in connection with the event. Dhakuakhana SDO Arindam Baruah released Ingit, the souvenir of the event along with Devadasi, Deosal Aru Anyanya, a collection of selected drama by Haren Saikia. Then retired professor and prominent theatre activist Amiya Kumar Hundique released a book titled Suti Galpa: Dristi Aru Darshan authored by Dr. Keshab Saikia. In the same programme, senior theatre activists Phatik Hazarika, Bhola Dutta, Taranath Dutta, Tankeswar Saikia, Someswar Dutta, and youth theatre activist Sameer Hazarika were feted by the organization.
In connection with the event, a series of competitions were held on drawing, poetry recitation, mime, and solo-acting among the students. On the other hand, Lakhimpur Zila Parishad chairperson Manju Burhagohain inaugurated the Natya Sandhya which commenced from 4 pm. Circle Officer of Subansiri Revenue Circle, Krishna Arjun Barman, and former working president of Asom Natya Sanmilan, Nazim Ahmed were present in the programme. In the drama competition, a total of 12 drama groups from five districts under the Swarnapeeth Mandal staged 12 plays.
