GOALPARA: With great pomp and grandeur, the Sainik School, Goalpara on Saturday celebrated its 59th Raising Day inside its premises. A plethora of events were conducted during the daylong celebrations. In this regard, different games were conducted in the afternoon for the junior cadets, staff and families which included cock-fight, sack race, treasure hunt, skipping, slow cycle race, 3-legged race, four-legged race, blind hit, music chair etc.

A ceremonial parade was also organized which was reviewed by Col YS Parmar, SM, the Principal of the school. In his address, the Principal complemented all the cadets and staff for their relentless efforts put in to celebrate the foundation day of the school in a befitting manner and appreciated the cadets for the well-synchronized ceremonial parade. A welcome tea for the guests was followed by wreath laying ceremony to pay tribute to Lt Col DN Sahni, the founder Principal of the school. Roll No 01 Nripendra Chandra Choudhury, an alumnus of the school graced the occasion as the chief guest.

A spectacular cultural programme was performed by different artistes which was followed by a felicitation programme by the members of Old Boys' Association of the school. Awards for the highest scorers from Assamese Medium in All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examinations were given to Cdt Azmain Mehtab, Cdt Rayaan Haque and Cdt Maharnav Gogoi for the year 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively. Cdt Dipansu Kumar Singh was awarded for being the highest aggregate scorer in PCM in AISSCE 2022 while Cdt Anurodh Kumar received Best in Academics award in Class XI for the year 2022.

Overwhelmed with nostalgic feelings, Nripendra Chandra Choudhury, chief guest in his speech shared his experiences of his schooling day at Sainik School Goalpara as the first Cadet of the school. He also complemented the cadets and the staff of his alma mater for celebrating the day in a grand way and appreciated their efforts to take the school to such a greater height.

Raising Day cake-cutting ceremony was held in the Cadets' Mess which was followed by lunch for all the guests, staff and cadets. A friendly football match and tug of war were organized.
