60-Member of National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) To Lay Down Arms Today

Guwahati: The fourth team of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) has decided to lay down their arms and return to their homelands today. The fourth team of NLFB comprises 60 members including the NLFB commando. They have decided to give up violence for good and surrender today. 

The presence of the team in Majbat's Kiyajuli area along the Assam-Arunachal border had been reported on Tuesday.

On August 8, the Assam Police witnessed the surrender of 32 cadres of NLFB led by platoon commander B Horpa. With plans to return to the mainstream, the cadres who have surrendered including B Horpa have moved from Jharbari to a designated camp in Kokhrajhar. 

This event comes as a consequence of the surrender of the founder of NLFB, M Batha, who was previously wanted by the NIA. Batha, along with 22 of his associates had surrendered to the government in July. Batha, along with the Assam Police officials, was also present to receive the cadres with newly floated outfits who had surrendered earlier.

Batha has urged other cadres who are still active to surrender as soon as possible. By August 15, all the chief camps of NLFB located in Kokhrajhar and Udalguri were likely to be cleared.
