61 candidates file nomination for municipal polls in Tezpur

TEZPUR: Altogether 61 candidates have filed their nominations for Tezpur Municipality Board polls. Sonitpur has four municipal boards, namely Tezpur, Dhekiajuli, Rangapara and Jamugurihat while Tezpur Municipality has 19 wards.

The nominations will be scrutinized on February 17. The Bharatiya Janata Party will contest in 16 wards. Indian National Congress will contest in 15 wards and Asom Gana Parishad and Assam Jatiya Parishad filed nomination for 3 wards. On the other hand, as many as 24 independent candidates filed nominations for Tezpur municipal polls.

Tezpur ward 17 and Jamuguri ward 4 have uncontested BJP candidates. All nominations were found valid in respect of Tezpur, Jamugurihat and Rangapara MB and six nominations were rejected in Dhekiajuli MB, official sources said.
