TEZPUR: The 61st Raising Day of Border Roads Organization as well as Project Vartak is celebrated by Project Vartak every year on May 7. On May 7, 1960, Border Roads Organization was raised by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru with two projects, namely Tusker at Tezpur in Assam and Beacon at Srinagar in J&K. Over the years, Project Tusker had been renamed as Project Vartak.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence and 61st Raising Day of BRO, Multi Dimensional Motorcycle expedition from Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh to Tezpur (Assam) was conducted by Project Vartak. On May 1, the expedition was flagged off by AloLibang, Health Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. The programme was led by Col Anil Kothiyal SM, Offg. CE Project Vartak, Tezpur as team leader with three members, namely AthareSandeep, Malik MD Bilal Khan and ChandanSamuah. It has covered 900 kilometers and connected various important places, vizTippi, Tenga, Khirmu and Gorsham. The programme aims to increase awareness about the importance of road safety and COVID-19 pandemic.

On Friday, the motorcycle expedition was flagged-in at Headquarters Chief Engineer Project Vartak and Col Anil Kothiyal paid homage to the martyrs by lying wreath at GREF Memorial, HQ Vartak and prayers were offered in Sarva Dharma Sthal along with very limited officers and staff.
