HAFLONG: The 62nd Teachers’ Day was organized at the District Library Auditorium, Haflong in the august presence of three ministers on Tuesday.

The ministers who graced the occasion were State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan, and Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa, along with North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NHAC) Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa, Council chairperson Ranu Langthasa and other Executive Members of the Council.

Praising the teaching community for their selfless contribution in nation building, all the three ministers thanked all the teachers present. Minister Pijush said that teachers are the ones who play a pivotal role in shaping students’ lives. Remembering Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, minister Jogen Mohan paid tribute and spoke about his contribution and achievements. Minister Nandita Gorlosa praised the teachers for helping students to achieve good results and also stressed quality education. In his speech, Debolal Gorlosa said, “Apart from teaching, teachers should also encourage students for physical fitness too.”

Thirteen teachers were awarded with best teachers’ certificate, including from Lower Primary, Middle Elementary, High School and Higher Secondary. Schools that had achieved A+ and A grade with pass percentage 100 were also awarded during the occasion. Teachers who had retired since the last year were also awarded with certificates from the organizers. The programme was organized by the Education Department and Council jointly.

To honour the contribution of the teachers of Dima Hasao, Nandita Gorlosa also sponsored four awards from MLA fund, of which three were for best teachers. They were awarded with Rs 5000 each and one lifetime achievement award.
