64th Death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar observed at Bilasipara

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan Management Committee, Bilasipara, the 64th death anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar was observed at Bilasipara in Ambedkar Bhavan on Friday with a day-long colourful programme.

In this connection, Dayal Paul, president of the management committee, inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national flag while Dr Kanu Lal Das, secretary of the management committeem garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar. Ostad Abdul Karim Khan, noted Goalparia singerm lit the ceremonial lamp and Kalyan Chakraborty offered floral tribute. A seminar was also held on the topic “Women empowerment and the role of Dr. Ambedkar”. Professor Multufa Begum and Prof Abdul Wadoot Sheikh, Assistant Professor, Meghalaya University of Science and Technology, delivered lecture on the topic.

Art competition was held among school children and blankets were distributed among poor women. In the evening, the open session was held under the president ship of Dayal Paul. Four persons – Debashree Pyne (teacher) Multufa Begum (writer), Geetanjali Neogi (journalist) and Babita Banikya (singer) – were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the society with phoolam gamosa, cheleng chadar, memento and citation. To commemorate the programme, a souvenir was also brought out titled Pakhila, edited by Altaf Hussain Ahmed and Dhananjay Singha.
