KOKRAJHAR: A total of 661 meritorious students of Kokrajhar district were distributed scooties as Dr. Banikanta Kakati Meritorious award under the Pragyan Bharati scheme at a function held under the initiative of Kokrajhar district administration at Nilkamal Brahma Auditorium of Kokrajhar Science College on Sunday.

The programme started with the welcome address delivered by Dr Ramananda Sinha, Principal of Kokrajhar Science College and District Nodal Officer for distribution of scooties under Pragyan Bharati Achoni after the lamp lighting by MLA of Gossaigaon LAC Jiron Basumatary, who participated in the programme as the chief guest. On the occasion, as the chief guest of the programme, MLA of Gossaigaon LAC, Jiron Basumatary ceremonialy distributed six scooties to the meritorious students in the presence of Jagadish Prasad Brahma, Director of Education, BTR and other dignitaries. The awards has been given by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam to the students who scored 75% and above marks among boys and 60% and above among girl students in the last Higher Secondary Examination, 2020-21. In Kokrajhar district, out of 661 students who managed to get scooties, 61 boys and 600 girls got scooties.

Chief guest Jiron Basumatary then formally distributed six scooties among the meritorious students in the presence of Director, Education, BTC, Jagdish Prasad Brahma and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Jiron Basumatary congratulated the awardees and hoped that their talent would contribute to the development and progress of the state in the future. He urged the students to move forward in the field of education with a competitive spirit in the coming days. Because the present era is an era of competition.

Jagadish Prasad Brahma, Director of Education department, BTC also hoped that the award would inspire the students to shape their future. He advised the students to drive the scooties with outmost care and safety and use these scooties only for academic purposes and not for any other useless works. He also highlighted various schemes undertaken by the education department of BTC government under the leadership of BTC Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro. Dr Ramananda Sinha, Principal of Kokrajhar Science College and District Nodal Officer for distribution of scooties under the scheme delivered the welcome address on the occasion.
