TINSUKIA: The 68th Wildlife Week was observed at Mahakali Grant High School under the aegis of Itakhuli block's Aryabhata Science Centre (ASC) with a daylong awareness programme on Saturday. The programme, chaired by ASC president Swapna Deka Malakar, headmistress of Mahakali Grant High School was attended by students from nearby institutions including Bordubi Junior College and Tinsukia Commerce College.
The event began with a floral tribute to the portrait of Aryabhata. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, teacher Tridib Gogoi expressed concern about the destruction of tall trees thereby losing the habitat of canopy bird species like vultures etc. Gradual decline in the use of paddy straw in house building has reduced the sparrow population, Gogoi observed.
