Prof Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, graced the programme as the chief guest while Rajneesh Tingle, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals (Government of India), attended as the guest of eminence. In his convocation address, chief guest Prof Puranik congratulated the passing out students and urged them to continue with their passion, live up to their potential and serve the nation.

He emphasized innovation and collaborations and urged the students to play crucial roles in shaping the society through their innovative thinking and actions. Guest of Eminence Tingle expressed his gratitude to Dr. USN Murty, Director NIPER Guwahati, for leading the institute in the right direction and preparing batches of students for the course of nation-building. He acknowledged the challenges that NIPER Guwahati has successfully overcome over the years and highlighted its presence as one of the leading institutes in pharmaceutical research in the Northeast and the country. He further informed that Department of Pharmaceuticals has recently formulated a Scheme for Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech (PRI) Sector in order to transform Indian pharmaceutical sector from cost-based to innovation-based growth by strengthening the research infrastructure in the country.

“Under this scheme, Centres of Excellence will be set up at all NIPER, with one on Phytopharmaceuticals in NIPER Guwahati,” he said.
