DIPHU/NAGAON: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Friday celebrated the 6th National Handloom Day at the Arboretum-cum-Craft Centre Matipung, Diphu. Diphu MP Horensing Bey and KAAC chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang participated in the programme as special guests.
"History of handloom in the State is older than the history of the arrival of the British and the subsequent British rule. Assam is one among the few States in India which is known for its indigenous handloom works. We must solve all the problems of the handloom industry in order to rejuvenate it," said Horensing Bey. The day is celebrated to honour the handloom weavers and to acknowledged their contribution toward India's social-economic development, said Tuliram Ronghang. Handloom works of more than 100 weavers were exhibited in the venue.
