LAKHIMPUR: A total of 700 Bihuwa and Bihuwotis (Bihu dance performers) from Lakhimpur district will participate in the “largest Bihu dance performance” to be held in Guwahati on April 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in view of holding the world record. The selection of these 700 dancers has already been completed by the Lakhimpur district administration.
In this connection, the final rehearsal for the mega-district-level Bihu event was organised centrally by the Lakhimpur district administration on Sunday at the North Lakhimpur Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School playground. Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan graced the occasion and encouraged the Bihu dance performers. He was overwhelmed on seeing “the mesmerizing performances by Lakhimpur Bihu dance performers”, as he termed them. The minister called upon them to take part in the mega event to be held on April 14 sincerely and to be the fortunate ones by being part of the extravaganza and the rare moments. Lakhimpur MP Manab Deka also delivered a lecture in the concluding programme, extending his best wishes to the Bihu dance performers and calling upon them to maintain good health. On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan and SP Bedanta Madhav Rajkhowa also addressed the participants, extending their greetings to them. The event was attended by representatives of Naoboicha MLA Bharat Narah, DDC Utpal Borah, the CEO of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad, chairpersons of the four municipal boards of Lakhimpur district, and administrative officers. The 700 dancers of the district will set out for Guwahati on Monday in 21 buses, along with a nodal officer, 14 nodal officers, and 16 master trainers.
