73 Candidates Contesting in 2nd Phase of Assam Polls Are Crorepatis: ADR Report

List of Crorepati Candidates in Assam Election: Based on an analysis done by election watchdog body - Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), out of 345 candidates who are contesting in the second phase of the upcoming Assembly Election in the state, 73 or 21 per cent are crorepatis. Going by the analysis among the major parties who have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore include BJP, INC, AJP, AIUDF, BPF and AGP.

Crorepati Candidates in Assam

 The breakup of party-wise crorepatis participating candidates are as follows:

  • 19 or 56% out of 34 candidates have been analysed from Bhartiya Janata Party, BJP
  • 18 or 64% out of 28 candidates analysed from Indian National Congress, INC
  • 6 or 32% out of 19 candidates analysed from Assam Jatiya Parishad, AJP
  • 5 or 71% out of 7 candidates analysed from All India United Democratic Front, AIUDF
  • 3 or 75% out of 4 candidates analysed from Bodoland Peoples Front, BPF and
  • 3 or 50% out of 6 candidates analysed from Assam Gana Parishad, AGP

The average of assets per candidate contesting in the Assam Assembly Elections 2021 second phase is Rs 2.19 Crores. Among major parties, the average assets per candidate is as follows:

  • 34 BJP candidates have average assets of Rs. 2.74 Crores,
  • 28 INC candidates have average assets of Rs 4.78 Crores,
  • 19 Assam Jatiya Parishad candidates have average assets of Rs 88.70 Lacs,
  • 7 AIUDF candidates have average assets of Rs 21.25 Crores,
  • 6 AGP candidates have average assets of Rs 1.13 Crore and
  • 13 SUCI(C) candidates have average assets worth Rs. 25.43 Lacs

  • If we go by the overall share of wealth amongst all the candidates contesting in the Assam Assembly elections 2021 phase II, the value of assets of 21 or 6% of candidates is 5 crore and above, 28 or 8% candidates is 2 to 5 crores, 53 or 16% is 50 lakhs to 2 crores, 108 or 31% is 10 lakhs to 50 lakhs and 135 or 39% is less than 10 lakhs...
