NALBARI:The 74th Republic Day was celebrated in Nalbari district on Thursday.

The National Flag was officially hoisted by Ashok Singhal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Irrigation of the State Government. The minister inspected the parades performed by police, paramilitary forces, NCC and students of various educational institutions and received their greetings.

In his speech at the unfurling of the National Flag on Republic Day, Singhal paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and Constitution designer Dr BR Ambedkar and the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle. He recalled the contribution of Assam and the Northeast in the freedom struggle of the country and the sacrifices and self-sacrifice of the martyrs and freedom fighters of Nalbari district, including martyr Mukunda Kakati.

Referring to the integrated humanitarian philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, he said the concept of 'Development of all with all, faith of all, effort of all' comes from the motto 'All-touching, all-pervading' and is the basic policy of the present government.

In his short speech, minister Singhal highlighted the important steps taken by the Central and State governments in the past towards rapid development of the State. He said the government has been trying to touch every sphere and part of society through development. He said the government will continue to work for the rapid development of the state in the coming days with the love, support, cooperation and blessings of the people. He urged the teaching community to develop genuinely qualified human resources for building a new Assam.

The minister also felicitated veteran freedom fighter Khagendra Talukdar of the district who was present at the function. Before the main programme, the minister laid wreaths at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the premises of the District Commissioner's office.

The event was attended by District Commissioner Gitimani Fukan, Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh, former MLA Ashok Sharma, and others. The event was attended by officers, heads of various departments, teachers, students, representatives of various media outlets, journalists and a large number of the general public.

SIVASAGAR: The 74th Republic Day of India was celebrated on Thursday in Sivasagar with a day-long program.

Minister for Finance and Social Welfare Ajanta Neog formally unfurled the National Flag while participating as the chief guest at the central function held at the historic Boarding Field under the initiative of Sivasagar district administration.

Before unfurling the Tricolour, the minister participated in the swahid tarpan programme held at the Anandaram Baruah Park and Swahid Piyoli Phukan Park to commemorate the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the motherland India. The minister also received salute from the police, paramilitary forces and cadets of scout-guide who participated in the parade.

In her address as the chief guest in presence of Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav and Superintendent of Police Shubhrajyoti Bora, the minister recalled the supreme sacrifice of the country's brave martyrs, freedom fighters and recalled the courage and valour of the security forces engaged in the border and internal security of the country.

Neog spoke about the welfare schemes taken by the Central and State Governments for the development of the district and sought full cooperation of the people for their successful implementation.

She said that the district administration has been giving priority to speedy and effective implementation of schemes under the departments of education, health, rural development, agriculture and its allied sectors, industry, commerce, power, transport, public health engineering, etc. of the district.The chief guest then visited the exhibition stalls set up by various departments at Boarding Field.

The Republic Day function was also attended by thousands of people, representatives of various organisations, students, invited guests, district administration officials and heads of various departments.

KOKRAJHAR: Along with the rest of the country, the Kokrajhar district administration celebrated the 74th Republic Day with patriotic fervor at Kokrajhar Govt. HS&MP School playground on Thursday. The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTR Pramod Boro hoisted the national tricolor after offering floral tribute to national martyrs at the martyrs' tomb in the heart of Kokrajhar town.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, CEM of BTR Pramod Boro said his council had been working for establishment of good governance in the council and in the grass root level as well. He said crashing down of corruption in the council was their prime commitment to the people for which the coalition government has been working with various reformative agendas. He also said the corruption would be dealt with not only in official level but also in political and grass root level as well. He said they had already instructed his public representatives and officers to visit remote areas to ascertain the grievances of people in their respective places. He said he had collected reports that some of the government officials were not following the instructions. He called upon the people to be conscious and force the officers and public representatives to visit and take and hear their basic problems. He also asked the chairmen of VCDC, TCLCC and Municipal Boards to collect data of basic requirements of public in their respective places.

Boro said his council had been concentrating to establish permanent peace and progress for all communities with a vision for green and smart Bodoland. For sustainable development, the council government has taken up mega pig mission, handloom mission, milk mission, sericulture mission etc. through which they want to bring economic development in rural areas by giving financial aid and skill training to unemployed, he said adding that to bring happiness among all sections of the society, his government has reached to unreached people, has paid door to door visit to underprivileged families to understand their basic needs and other fundamental rights.

Earlier, Boro inspected the guard of honour of various contingents of the police. The district administration felicitated successful persons for achieving in various fields. Many departments took part in the display of tableau on the occasion.

MANGALDAI: Cross section of society with an open mind joined the festive celebration of 74th Republic Day at Kachari Moidan here.

Minister of Culture Bimal Bora, taking part in the celebration as the chief guest, unfurled the Tri colour in presence of an august gathering. Earlier, he inspected a guard of honour hosted by the contingents of SSB, Assam Police, Home Guards, NCC, SCC and ACD. In the function, he also conferred felicitation on singer of repute, Rinti Moni Deka and teacher Kusum Hazarika of Ghorabandha of Sipajhar in recognition of their immense contribution in their respective fields.

Various government departments also displayed tableau in the celebration. Cultural performances presented by artistes from different institution added more colour to the festive celebration of the Republic Day. However, due to the celebration of Saraswati Puja that coincided with the Day, the participation of students was very thin.
