Lai Khuta erected at Moni-Kanchan Xahitya Kshetra

LAKHIMPUR: The due preparation for the successful conduct of the 76th Narayanpur Conference of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), the leading literary body of Assam, has been underway in Lakhimpur district. On Thursday, the lai khuta of the conference was erected at Moni-Kanchan Xahitya Khetra, set up at Narayanpur, in a festive environment. It was conducted by Tourism, Public Health and Engineering Department Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah. Addressing the public on the occasion, the minister commemorated the glorious heritage of Narayanpur and said that Narayanpur is a sacred place which is enlightened with the spiritual activities of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Madhavdev who spearheaded a spiritual and cultural movement in medieval Assam.

"Axam Xahitya Xabha is an inseparable part of Assamese community and society. It is a platform on which all the communities of the State assemble together with united strength. Organizing the conference of the literary body in a place like Narayanpur is matter of great pride and immense pleasure," Jayanta Malla Baruah added.

The open session, which was organized on this occasion, commenced with Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, the president of the organizing committee-cum-MLA of the Bihpuria LAC, in the chair. It was attended by AXX chief secretary Jadab Chandra Sarmah, AXX former president-in-charge Biswa Baruah, Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley, Xatradhikars Jogendra Nath Lagasu, Munindra Narayan Dev Goswami, AXX Kaliabor Conference organizing committee secretary Mrinal Hazarika, all the District Xahitya Xabha presidents and secretaries and many other dignitaries.

The open session was held under the management of organizing committee general secretary Makhan Tamuli. While delivering the welcome address, Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan informed that the organizing committee had produced paddy, potato and other vegetables by cultivating in two hundred bigha land in order to make the extravaganza successful. He added that guest houses had already been set up at Narayanpur and Bihpuria. He appealed to the people of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji Majuli and Biswanath districts to extend all kinds of cooperation for the smooth conduct of the event.

Before erecting the lai khuta, a total of 76 flags of the AXX were hoisted by 76 prominent figures representing various tribes and communities of the State. The lai khuta was erected amid the blended notes of Doba, Sankha, Borkah, Khol followed by the presentation of the AXX title song— "Chira Chenehi Mor Bhasa Jononi...". The conference will be held from January 31 to February 4 of the upcoming year.
