DIBRUGARH: Over cautiousness adversely affects innovative practices, said Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva University and former Vice chancellor of Gauhati University, on the occasion of the 78th establishment day of DHSK College, Dibrugarh.

While delivering the Dr Lakhi Prasad Dutta Memorial Lecture on the theme 'The future of innovation and need of redefining higher education', Dr Hazarika further said that innovation was a way of life. The new innovations are giving new ways to human lives. Dr Hazarika also gave a glimpse of new innovations that are taking place in today's world. He said that every student is blessed with a lot of qualities and they should nourish those qualities, which would lead towards innovation.

Dr Jogen Chandra Kalita, Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, Gauhati University and working president Snehabadhan, inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural speech, Dr Kalita said that with the united effort of all the members of the college, the college would be able to reach new heights.

Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal DHSK College, delivered the welcome speech. Speaking on the occasion, Padma Shri Dr Surjya Hazarika proudly recalled all the teachers he met since his days of study at Kanoi College and shared some less known facts about Jogiraj Basu, the founder principal of the college.

Like the previous years, this year also the Dr Lakhmiprasad Dutta Memorial Award was presented to highest mark holders Parishmita Gogoi from Arts Stream for the year 2019-20 and Anikha Dutta for 2020-21.

On this occasion, Dibrugarh Nagarik Moncha presented the 'Clean College Award of Assam' to DHSK College as recognition of its relentless efforts towards maintaining Swacchata and green environment. A handbook on Plant Species Diversity of DHSK College and college magazine Kanoian was also formally released on the occasion. Donor member of governing body DHSK College, JP Kanoi, family members of Dr Lakhmiprasad Dutta, retired teachers of Kanoi College alumni, teachers, employees, students and other distinguished members of Dibrugrah were present on the occasion.
