82,032 children to be vaccinated with Diptheria Tetanus in Dhubri

DHUBRI: Dhubri District Health Services is all set to launch Tetanus Plus Vaccination Campaign (TPVC) from Monday, for which all the preparations have already been made and team got readied to achieve target defying all the adversaries including COVID-19.

Addressing the media persons here at the office premises of Dhubri Joint Director of Health Services, Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. Syed EmdadUllah informed that vaccination of Diptheria Tetanus Vaccination would be launched from December 14 in Dhubri district along with the rest of the State as directed by higher authorities.

"This campaign will be for 20 working days excluding Sundays and holidays. The beneficiaries will be of 10 years and 16 years of age. We will try to vaccinate the beneficiaries at schools and at community Halls or other suitable places in the urban and rural area as well", Dr. Ullah said.

He informed that due to COVID-19 pandemic situation, most of the schools remained closed, so it would not be possible to undertake all the vaccination session at the schools only, so they would explore other option for vaccination to cover the target.

While explaining the reason for launching this vaccination, Dhubri District Immunization and Surveillance Officer, Dr. JoydeepBhattacharjee informed that it was observed for past few years, that there had been rising number of diphtheria cases on pan-India basis and upon seeing the vaccination age between 10 to 16 years of children and adolescents, it was decided at the national level to replace Tetanus Toxid (TT) vaccine with Tetanus Diptheria (Td) vaccine for all the beneficiaries at Routine Immunization session.

"Hence, the TT vaccine given to 10 and 16 years old beneficiaries now need to be replaced by Td vaccine with no significant adverse reaction is seen with this vaccine till date. In the forthcoming Tetanus Plus vaccine campaign of our district we are supposed to vaccinate around 82,032 beneficiaries approximately from district population of 21,87,584 people, this includes South Salmara-Mankachar district", Dr. Bhattacharjee informed.

He also informed that 2785 session would be needed to vaccinate all the beneficiaries.

When asked about the present status of Covid 19 in the district, Dr. Emdad Ullah informed that total positive cases 4541 of which 4477 have been discharged as on December 11. At present 3 admitted in GMCH ,6 Home isolation,8 in Dhubri Civil Hospital while 8 in Bilasipara Diporkhuti, so 17 cases and 47 persons died.
