GOLAGHAT: The 142 Bn, CRPF, Jonaki Nagar of Golaghat celebrated the 82nd CRPF Raising Day on Monday in a befitting manner at its unit headquarter location. On the auspicious occasion, the troops paid homage to martyrs under the command of Ratul Das, Second In Command (Officiating Commanding Officer) of 142 Bn CRPF. The programme was conducted keeping in mind all guidelines / norms of COVID-19 pandemic.

The CRPF was raised on July 27, 1934 in Nimach (North Indian Mounted Artillery and Cavalary Headquarters), Madhya Pradesh as Crown Representative Police. After India's Independence, it became the Central Reserve Police Force on enactment of the CRPF Act on December 28, 1949. Besides law and order and counter- insurgency duties, CRPF has played an increasingly large role in India's general elections. Of late, CRPF contingents are also being deployed in UN missions. With 246 battalions and various other establishments, the CRPF is considered India's largest paramilitary force and has a sanctioned strength of more than 300,000 personnel as of 2020.
